Starożytny Dąb - Ancient Oak

This remarkable section of reclaimed oak originates from the historic market town of Ossett, West Yorkshire.

In November 2024, we salvaged a collection of ancient oak beams from a large Yorkshire farm, where they had been left exposed to the elements for many years.

After carefully bringing them indoors to dry naturally, we began milling them into planks in July 2026. During the process, one extraordinary section caught Kasia's eye.

As she gently cleaned away years of dirt and debris, the timber revealed a breath taking landscape sculpted by centuries of time.

We named this piece "Starożytny Dąb", the Polish phrase for "Ancient Oak", a fitting tribute to its enduring beauty and remarkable history.

Its deeply weathered surface resembles a rugged canyon, with flowing ridges and valleys carved by hundreds of years of exposure. Every crack, contour and texture tells a story, while original peg holes and a traditional mortise joint remain as lasting reminders of the generations of craftsmen who once shaped this timber.

Estimated to be over 300 years old, this oak is believed to have spent centuries supporting buildings, the last of which was constructed in 1695.

Rather than allowing its story to end, we have transformed it into a striking piece of illuminated wall art that celebrates both its craftsmanship and its history.

Discreet LED strip lighting is concealed behind the oak, creating a warm, subtle halo that enhances the timber's dramatic texture without distracting from its natural beauty.

The result is a truly unique centrepiece and an exceptional conversation piece for any home.

The lighting is powered via USB, allowing it to be connected to any USB mains adaptor or power bank, which can be discreetly hidden behind the artwork. For a more permanent installation, it can also be hardwired by a competent installer.

A remote control is supplied, allowing the lights to be dimmed to create the perfect ambience.
